Understanding Sin

Why God Hates Sin

Have you ever thought about why God hates sin? Many of us assume, naturally so, that because He is God, He hates sin. But why, exactly, would you say He hates sin?

The answer is simple, yet profound. God is not some kind of prude or a killjoy when it comes to sin.

"God hates sin because sin harms and/or destroys individuals, families, and the innocent."

  • The alcoholic destroys his health and robs him of his potential in life.

  • The adulterer hurts his wife and family in numerous ways.

  • The thief causes grief and pain to an innocent victim.

God cares for us all, and deeply so. When we hurt, He hurts. When sin shatters a life or the life of another, God sees and feels it all. When sin separates us from Him, He mourns.

So the real question is — why wouldn't God hate sin?
